This project was about maximizing the assets of a cramped-feeling ground floor flat. The designer couple clients embraced the ideas of multi-use spaces and connecting to the outdoors. A 6′ x 10′ patio lay behind a tiny bathroom window and was only accessible through a bedroom. The living room was landlocked with one tiny property line window. By reversing the bath and living, the patio became usable, a source of light for the interior, and a visual extension of the living room. The new bath is compact yet contains a 4′ soaking tub and stackable washer dryer. A custom bike rack makes the most of a windowless passageway. A modern banquette is tucked in the bright entry under a staircase. Two existing bedrooms get an uplift with built-in shelving and custom closet doors.
